help with T-56 and skip shift solenoid
help with T-56 and skip shift solenoid
i just installed a freshly rebuilt t-56 trans in my 89 IROC. the trouble is it didnt come with anything but the trans itself. no sensors, etc. now ive replaced everything it needs, except the skip shift solenoid. since i wont be using the factory computer (ive got Big Stuff 3), the solenoid wont even be actuated, however i still have the problem of plugging the hole in the trans. according to my research, it has Metric threads and an o-ring sealing surface, so as far as I know nobody makes a plug for it!
so, im asking you guys for help. what are my options in terms of plugging it. i dont feel like paying over $300 (CDN) for a solenoid i wont even be using, and obviously i want it to seal properly so it cant be a mickey mouse job.
i appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Re: help with T-56 and skip shift solenoid
so youre saying i can modify the reverse lockout solenoid to fit in the skip shift solenoid hole in the trans? has anyone done this before? will it/does it work well?
Re: help with T-56 and skip shift solenoid
No no...There is a small what looks like a plug on the other side of where the skipshift is near the top of the tranny just below the flat plate ahead of the shifter and not as far back as the rev lockout. It helps hold the tranny in gear sorta. Im not sure if its the same thread but I can check for ya this weekend.

Re: help with T-56 and skip shift solenoid
Yeahh sometimes I overdo it a little. Anyway the part is called a detent assy,shift...Its #56 in the tremec book. Looks like the tremec part# is 13-86-608-006. Look http://www.g-forcetransmissions.com/pdfs/t56manual.pdf on page 2.2. I dont know if it will be any cheaper but its worth a shot. I think I will still get the size for future ref though.
Re: help with T-56 and skip shift solenoid
wow thanks for the details. that helps a ton. im gonna try and get a price, but ill have to print a couple pages out of that manual to show them exactly what i need.
im going to chk to see if the threads are the same when i get a chance, but if you beat me to it, would you mind posting here and letting me know what you find? thanks for all the help.
