Hammer in some soaking wet toilet paper in the hole of the pilot bearing, it will hydraulically force the bearing out. Sounds wierd but it works everytime, I have even seen pros do this if they dont have a puller. I have done it 3 time on my car without failure. You will be surprised how much TP will go in there too.

He already tried the normal methods as you suggested. He obviously had a very unusual problem. Meccadeth, I am some how feeling your pain . You must have a very good neighbor. So, how many times do you have to cut his grass for free?

I cant understand why everyone says this. Bushings wear, bearings dont. A bearing could fail, but how many have you seen do that? When I pulled my bushing after 15k miles, it was pretty wore out. That may have been what took out my clutch so early. I will never use a bushing again. A bearing is the way to go.

Exactly. Bushings have been used for over 40years because they work.

A bushing will survive much better with out grease. As soon as that bearing runs dry you are SOL. I put a bushing back in mine.

I haven't seen any quote "grenade" but i've seen an awful lot of bearings with no guts in them at all because they got dry and came apart. I've seen people on here say their bearings have gone bad and tore up their input shaft. At least on a bushing the bushing takes the wear not the input shaft.
