Having a few problems after verter install
Having a few problems after verter install
I put in a SLP 2800 verter into my 1995 TA. Stock cam, 2.73 gears.... I know
The 3.43 gears go in after the snow is gone.
Problems: has a slight whine that changes with RPM (sounds like a gear drive timing kit)
at 45-60mph it feels like its surging in and out of lockup mode (about a 200rpm variance) I unpluged the 4prong connecter hooked up to my brake pedal to unlock it permanatly to see if it went away, and it did. I did plug that back in after the test.
When I first put my car into reverse or drive after it sitting for a while, it feels like the fluid has to circulate around the trans before it will really go. (takes more gas to get the car moving for a few seconds. After that initial take off everything is normal) Its not the stall speed either, I know how a verter car is supposed to drive. It takes off normal after fluid builds up.
It bangs off the rev limiter a few times at the 1-2 shift.
Good points: It really woke the car up.

Couple questions, first of all, how much fluid did you put in it over all, quarts I mean?
Loose shifts can be caused by less than the proper amount of tranny fluid. The shifting delay or the "circulating fluid" thing might be explained by that...
Have you had any reprogramming done?
LT1's often have problems with high stall converters unless they reprogrammed. It's often referred to as the "stall wall" and can sometimes cause the tranny to not want to shift at the right spot, possibly explaining your bouncing off the limiter problem...
