GearVendors Overdrive w/TH350, good setup for mostly stock car???

I am looking at buying a TH350w/stall and GearVendors overdrive unit. Is this a good strong setup? How about the gear splitting, anyone know if this works on the TH350?

Also, where is a good place to buy a TH350+stall (built th350 that is). I am budgeting myself like 800 for the tranny and stall, can a TH350 be had for that price?

Anyone know of a good TH350+stall being sold for around that price?

Thanks,
James

for stock power level, i would stick with the 4l60e.

why do you want a th350?

Just an option, seems like most people say that even a built 4L60E isnt a bulletproof 4L60E, if I am going to dish out the money, why throw it into a transmission that is notorious for failure? It would seem logical to use a proven strong transmission, that is cheaper to rebuild, cheaper to buy parts for, and with the GearVendors, has overdrive.

What all would I need to buy to convert, here is what I can think of:

Built TH350
GearVendors overdrive unit
th350 stall
shortened driveshaft
and maybe the speed sensing unit

What do you guys think, would I loose power this way, or do all agree with my logic.

PS- Is there anyway I could retain the automatic shifting, or would I have to use a manual valve body?

Thanks,
James

If I could find a way to get a TH350w/stall for under 800 I could get out with the GearVendors for under 2k, I found a nice used unit around.

So at that price, can I find a used TH350 w/stall for 800 or under?

And what other cost would I be looking at?

THanks,
James

a new Torque arm that mounts on the frame, because the th350 will not work with the factory torque arm, a different length driveshaft, a different tranny mount/crossmember. your will need to do find the way to make your speedo work (i forgot)

you will find lots of good info if you search "th350 swap"

my advice is to buy a good built 4l60e with a PI stall for about $2000

If it's mostly stock and you need OD, stick with the 4L60. Besides what has been mentioned, the GV is heavy and you will also need a new driveshaft. If you decide not to buy the GV, I am looking for one and would appreciate it if you would hook me up. Also, a good TH350 + converter will be a lot more than $800.

I have a Gearvendors and an A4 for double overdrive.
A little different from what you guys want.
Makes my 3.73 a 2.91 for great highway cruising.
The gearsplitting is impractical from a performance standpoint but I love it as an A5.

I have a complete Th350 for $500 and it's fresh so all you would need would be a torque converter which could be had for $300 and that would be $800 complete. LMK Later Clint
