What keeps "breaking"??
Either A) your tranny builder isn't very capable, or B) you need a new transmission ... I don't mean another re-build ... I mean get a completely new ("new" to you) tranny. My Dad is a mechanic, and he's explained from his experience that if a tranny fails prematurely just once, then it's more likely to fail again prematurely than a tranny that holds together for a long time.
I've put ~75,000 kms (~45,000 miles) on my '02 since I've owned it, been to the track several times, had 2.73's, 3.73's, and now 4.10's in the back, raced/romped on the car a lot
, and I now have a B&M shift kit in it (previously used the Hypertech tranny firmness increase) and it's still holding together?!
(*knock on wood*
))..... there's no reason your bolt-on LT1 should have killed 4 trannies on only 8 months!?
Have you talked to any of the builders on this site?
There are a couple regulars who really seem to know their stuff about 4L60E's ... I'd talk to Frank (12SCNDZ) at CPT, or ProBuiltAutomatics before doing a TH400 swap + gear vendors ... can you say "lots of work and lots of money"?!?!

Re: gearvendears
GV is a great unit, no big problem getting the speedo to work with a TH400. But a good TH400, TC, driveshaft, and a GV are gonna run at least $5K-6K. Sounds like a properly built 4L60 is the way for you to go.

Re: gearvendears
The GV is probably going to interfere with your Y-pipe. I lost mine when I installed the TH400/GV combo. Just ran pipes straight back from each collector, problem solved.
The tailshaft of the GV ends up right over the g-load brace. It will require that you relocate the DS loop. I have the Spohn TA, and he had to make me up one with the DS loop bout 12" back on the arm, rather than on the front mount. And yet another expensive DS to buy.
The speedo isn't a problem, the sensor just moves to the GV. The GV also comes with a weight penalty. The only OD ratio available is 0.78 so that's not going to drop the rev's as much as a 4-sp O/D atomatic. I was running close to 4,000rpm in 3rd gear with the TH400, at 70mph and with street tires. The GV dropped it closer to 3,000rpm..... still on the high side.

This was a mockup of the TA mount to check the clearance. You can see the stand for where Spohn normally mounts the loop:

Finished TA and exhaust:

Re: gearvendears
Has anyone tried the gv with a 4l80e? It's certainly overkill for that setup but it would still be nice. Let's see here:
T56 w/ 3.42s -> .5 x 3.42 = 1.71
4L80E w/ GV & 4.10s -> .75 x .78 x 4.10 = 2.40
The T56 will turn about 1500 rpms at 60, so with the 4l80e and GV with that ratio you could turn about 2100 rpms at 60.
No, it's not cheap or easy, but I just thought I would throw that out there anyway.

Re: gearvendears
I have a gearvendors behind a 4l60E.
Had to turn the adaptor over 180 degrees because of the speed sensor but otherwise it fit well.
After I put my 3.73's in I loved the acceleration and feel of the car but felt it needed another gear since it was turning 3000 rpm at 80 mph with stock height tires.
Now I have an A4 +1 or A5.
The gv will drop the rpms by 650.
Right now with 1 inch oversize tires and the gv engaged my rpms are about 1900 at 70 and 2200 at 80, 2500 at 90 and 2800 at 100.
My final ratio is 2.04 or put another way my 3.73 becomes 2.91 which is very close to the stock 2.73 highway gears.
I used the Jegs short torque arm kit with the plate that bolts in the transmission tunnel.
I cut and modded my stock torque arm and mount and sold the jegs arm to someone building a 3rd gen race car as the jegs arm was too noisy for me.
Although the gearvendors is expensive and extensive in the work for installation its the best of both worlds for a daily Auto driver, having drag gears when you want to go and highway gears when you want to cruise.
An M6 conversion would be cheaper but after 7 or 8 manual cars over the years the pain of shifting gears overcame the fun and theatrics of dumping it and letting it go.
I'm very pleased with having the extra gear.
