Gear Pinion Spacer

Hello, i currently have 2.73 gears and was wondering if i get 3.73 gears for a 3 series carrier if the pinion spacer will be strong enough? As of right now i have a 2 series carrier and i would be buying 3 series carrier gears, would it be strong enough so nothing will break? Thanks

Re: Gear Pinion Spacer

If your going to be buying brand new gears then just get them for a series 2 carrier, they are virtually the same in price.

Re: Gear Pinion Spacer

I actually thought it was the ring gear that had to be spaced out. Anyway, I was told that spacers are not a good idea bc the longer bolts that need to be used have a tendency to work themselves loose.

Re: Gear Pinion Spacer

Are you talking about the "ring" gear spacer?, or the thin pinion shim that goes under the pinion bearing to get the right pattern on the ring gear? If you are talking about a ring gear spacer, then they are not a real good idea if you have some torque & horsepower. Low HP & an automatic transmission does not seem to be affect it as much.

I am talking about the product to make a 2 series carrier a work with a 3 series carrier gear. It is some kind of spacer. I just want to know if it is reliable enough for me to put it on and be a spirited driver with it. I only have basic bolt ons.

You might be fine and then again u might not. I was told not to use the spacer so I went and bought 3.73's for a series 2 carrier. Its all up to u man.

Re: Gear Pinion Spacer

I beleive u are talking about the "crush sleeve" all it does is crushes down as u tighten the pinion gear nut and sets the endplay.
