Ford 9" rear?
Ford 9" rear?
Someone local suggested I go for a Ford 9" out of an 80's pickup truck for a rear end instead of a mustang 8.8.
Can the Ford 9" be modded the same way as a Mustang 8.8?
Would the axles fit?
Would it be harder or easier?

Probably a similar amount of work...
-narrow or stretch width, depending on how wide the Ford truck assembly is compared to 4th Gen.
-check the center section... is it posi? ... have a reasonable number of splines? ...rebuild with new bearings and install gear of your choice. New axles if the originals didn't need to be replace for changes to the housing width.
-cut off all old brackets and brake mountings (similar to 8.8 conversion)
-have axle tubes welded to center section.... they aren't too good from the factory. (not sure how the 8.8's stack up).
-have all your brackets from the stock rear moved to the 9-inch, inclujding end plates for brake mounting. (similar to the 8.8)
-Fab up a torque arm mount (should be about the same as the 8.8).
-9-inch "specific" torque arm... the rear bracket needs the hole offset further. Spohn incoporates both hole patterns in his mounts now.
The more that I think about it, why didn't you post this on the new "DriveTrain" forum????
Moving it there.
