Fly Wheel Recommendations
Planning on istalling new high performance clutch. What is everyones opinion on fly wheels? I thinking of goin with a lighter one. I realize goin to light will hurt the engine performance because of lack of momentum/inertia.
lightweight spin up faster, but they spin down faster also. they are great for road racing where you downshift a lot and need to spin up quick out of a turn.
heavyweight ones spin up slower, but keep the rpm's a lot higher between shifts so you stay in your power range between shifts while drag racing.
it all depends on what you are looking for....my flywheel weighs 37 pounds!

With a light flywheel you have very little Kinetic energy. When you launch, you are more likely to bog the motor down. A heavy fly wheel won’t bog down as much off the line.
A heavier flywheel will rob more power- but it is justified in the amount it can "store" off the line.
Now if someone could make a heavy flywheel that safely shed after launching- you'd be in business!
There is no right or wrong answer; it just depends on your application. Obviously within reason, a 250lb flywheel isn't going to help anything!

I have an SLP lightweight FW. It dropped about 8lbs from that of the oem. I have had it in for about 4 years and I really like it. I don't take my car to the track so I can't comment about my experience with 60' times. It is great on the highway!
