Unbalanced Driveshaft

I've heard about the problems with the 93-96 driveshaft being unbalanced (supposedly fixed in 97 right?). How can I tell for sure if I am having this problem? My car doesn't vibrate, but I hear a "churning" noise coming from the driveshaft area every now and then. Is this the problem? Also, how much damage can it do? Or is it just a "ride comfort" type thing?

it's a ride comfort thing that occurs usually at higher speeds >75mph. I guess it could be serious if the balancing problem was extreme

I have a 97 and was getting bad vibes above 85mph. I replaced the steel shaft with an aluminum GMPP one and the vibes were gone. If you have the steel shaft, your gonna have more vibe. Only way around it is to replace it with aluminum, or smoother yet carbon fiber.

If you know someone with a dial indicator you can check it for runout. Im pretty sure the spec is between the .035-.040 range.
