The switch on the clutch pedal is the clutch safety switch. It ensures the clutch is pressed in when you are trying to start the car. Cant start the car without this hooked up.

There should have been 6 wires going into the position switch on the side of your original auto shifter.

- 2 are for the rear hatch release
- 2 are for the reverse lights (which need to run through the floor and connect with the reverse switch on the passenger's side of the T56)
- 2 are for the "neutral safety" / "clutch" switch .

I don't know which colors go with which off hand, but search for (if you don't already have it) the conversion "guide" and it should tell you which colors to pair up, and what they're for.

Right now I don't have the clutch switch hooked up ... I just spliced those 2 wires together, so I can "technically" start my car in gear without the clutch being pressed. Proper? NO!! But when I was finishing up my conversion, I sorta slacked off when I got to the wiring at the end , and I just wanted the damn thing to start!! Same for the hatch release wires ... just splice them together, and the reverse lights are easy too.

The one thing I HAVEN'T done that I really SHOULD is try to hook up the reverse lock-out solenoid . But it's a little more involved, as it means either A) finding your own means/power source to hook it up, or B) tap into the correct pin on the computer for the trigger wire and make it work "properly" ... either way would save the extra effort of "forcing" reverse .

There are two switches on the clutch assembly. One is the switch the prevents the engine from starting unless the clutch is on the floor. The other disengages the cruise control when you push the clutch in.

The starters are the same. I don't think I even removed mine when I converted.

Check your starter wires. Mine did the same thing at one point and I didnt have the ground tight and i also made sure the wires were tightned. Worked fine from there.

LMAO! I think you'll care when you try to start it in gear by accident or someone drives your car that doesnt know it will do that.
