Question Eaton Locker or Eaton Limited Slip?

A friend of mine has an Eaton locker for a 28 spline GM 7.5 rear... it came off a s10 4x4... what do you guys think? Better than a limited slip? Should I put it on my car?

my buddy loves his locker for the track but hates it on the road. every turn tire chirps as its moving at the same speed. dont know if they all work like that.

Re: Eaton Locker or Eaton Limited Slip?

My friend said that spools do that but that the locker is almost indistinguishable from the limited slip while driving. He said that the locker will hold traction better under harder driving conditions, and is harder to break, and that the only noticable difference would be that it would engage in an ON/OFF fasion instead of a 25% 50% 75% 100% posi fasion, but that it all happened so fast that you wouldn't notice the difference anyway.

But, I don't know whether or not he's over simplifying it so I'll buy it, or if the differences are really so plain.

I ran a locker in my Moser 9" for a couple of years. Did not like the street manners at all. The car will push on "slight" turns and upsets the suspension when it locks and unlock. Really more of a drag racing rear. I find the car a lot more fun to drive now that I'm back to a posi.

I agree with the above. Lockers are great for serious off-road trail rigs but are annoying and occaisionally scary when locking and unlocking in poor conditions on the street. I really like my Eaton limited slip diff, it's smooth and always leaves two black stripes no matter the conditions.

Re: Eaton Locker or Eaton Limited Slip?

The Eaton E-Locker is electronic and engages via an electromagnet. When the unit is disengaged it is a standard differential so drivability is like your mom's car. Wet weather drivability is better/safer. A wide open throttle switch or just a manual rocker switch engages the unit and it acts like a spool. Pretty neat really. I didn't know they had one for the 7 1/2". I wish they had a 12bolt passenger model.

I don't think its an E-Locker.. just a "normal" locker.

Lockers suck on the street.
