Gov-locks are common options in GM pickups. This is likely from an S-10.
In my opinion they are junk. I've broke everyone that I've owned. They act like an open rear until wheel spin is sufficient enough to make the governor expand & catch. This puts a lot of stress on this little part. I've seen a lot of these break & poke through the cover. It usually takes out the ring & pinion as well. My friends new pickup with 6000mi. Just broke one last week driving in his yard. If they blow out in wet grass, do you feel comfortable launching it on pavement?
