Does a LT1 converter lock at WOT?

I have never heard of this before.....is it true or not?

from the tuner....
Locking the converter should not affect your speedometer.

ALL LT1 cars lock the converter at wide open throttle. 93 cars just do it a little sooner.
94 and newer lock them at 95 MPH.

93 cars, around 85 MPH.

You can try running it without the speed sensor (and so without the converter locking), but I don't think you will gain anything. In fact, you may be slower.

Not last I checked.

That's why people install lockup switches on 'em. Not the best for the converter for that matter to lock up at WOT.

Actually they do lock up at wot with stock programming. Thats for stock cars and stalls though imo. Its done to help the stock pos mph better. With a 8 or 9" converter instead of that 12" stock lead brick though its better to not do that and let the car get all the rpm it can even at the cost of efficiency. The stock stall really doesnt do shat at all anyways. The reduced lock up clutch area usually doesnt appreciate it either. There are converters built to handle lockup with big hp but they are $$$.

The reality is...YOU NEVER WANT THE CONVERTER TO LOCK AT WOT! There's absolutely no reason to ever do it. Doing so will also damage the transmission.
As far as I've seen, no LT1 car is factory programmed to lock-up at WOT.

Heres a stock impala tune I happened to have handy. Now you can say you have seen it. There is even a nifty little table for it .

How does it damage the transmission? I've never heard that before.

On the Turbo Buick forums, people always tell me I should mod my GN so that it locks up at WOT in 2nd and 3rd. Better MPH, they tell me.

its alot differnt on a turbo car...the more you lug it the more it will make boost. a N/A car you sure don't want that it will kill the motor.

I know it will eat the clutch up in the converter, its not designed for that. Not sure what it will do to the internals of the trans itself......
