Do I really need a short throw?

I was looking around a bit and I just cant bring myself to spend the 100 bucks on an slp short throw shifter.

I was thinking that If I just bought a short stick for 30 bucks it might do the trick???

what do you guys think???

Well, you don't need anything. Yeah, you could get a short stick, or you could just cut your existing shifter handle and re-tap it. But why half-*** it? The aftermarket shifters are all-around better units. Its not just the shortness of the stick, my Pro 5.0 is extremely positive feeling. Not only is the throw shorter, but it is more precise. That was the main thing I was going for. And I got mine on Ebay for $75 Just keep an eye out on ebay, or in the for sale section here. Just my .02...

And the SLP short throw shifter isn't your best choice. It reuses the stock stick, with the large rubber bushing at the base - the source of alot of the "sloppy" feeling in the stock shifter. The SLP piece is basically a "clone" of the Hurst Comp+, except it doesn't come with a solid lever, and the metal in the cover plate is not as heavy. I don't even think Hurst makes the Comp+ any more, because it lacked the adjustable stops that they incorporated into the upgraded Hurst Billet.

The "short shift" changes the pivot point so it takes less movement to make the shift. You can accomplish something similar by shortening a stock shift, but think about an upgraded shifter, with the revised pivot, AND a shorter stick, and you have a shifter that takes very little movement to change gears.

I also had a Pro 5.0 and it was a work of art.

I have read that an slp short throw with a short stick is a pretty smooth set-up.
I know it wont be quite as good as a pro 5.0 or ripper...but I am not a professional driver and I also do not want all of the rattles and noise. And I would never shift my car hard enough to bend the forks, so the stops are not anything swaying my decision.
