From what I understand you can use a good floor jack and a peice of wide piece of wood. you just have to be careful to get it in the right spot to balance it. I would get a friend to help stablize it as you lower it to make sure it doesnt fall I have not yet removed mine, but I am about to in a couple months for a rebuild. maybe some one elese could chime in. should work though. good luck man

I used a piece of wood and the regular jack when I did my converter swap. That sucked pretty bad.. I won't be doing that again.

I've seen it mentioned on here that places like Autozone rent them out, but when I went and asked they gave me the same blank look they always do when you ask them about anything besides tire shine or chrome valve stem caps.

A couple of guys in the club used ATV jacks when dropping their trannys. The swear that it worked better than the transmission jacks.

The autozone near me had a ASE master certified mechanic there for awhile. he hurt his back after working at a dealership for several years. He impressed the hell out of me because he was the first ever autozone employee i didnt have to explain things to 12 times.

You can use a floor jack and a large piece of wood, it's really not that bad. Make sure you have a buddy to help, though. Postion the head of the jack so that it sits toward the front of the pan, that's where the balance point is.
