Differential check

Re: Differential check
Well then I guess my limited slip clutches are worn-out.
Is that somthing that can be done w/o going to the shop?
I'll just buy the clutches and do it myself if I doesn't take an act of congress to do.
Oh well, I'll get to that when I can.

Re: Differential check
^^^ true. Up to and including 1998 had Auburn cone-clutch. If it is past use-ability, it's best to replace ASAP, as the grooves on the cones are worn away and the cones have moved outward which in turn moves the cone's spiders away from the center shaft spiders, which in turn eliminates full tooth contact of the spider set. The spiders will break easier because of not full tooth contact.

Re: Differential check
getting a new differential(the proper one for your car as far as part number) will depend on what rearend gears you have. An automatic could have 2.73s(which would require a 2 series carrier) or 3.23s'(which would require a 3 series carrier). An M6 would have 3.42s' that would also require a 3series carrier. You need to find out before you can order in order to insure you order the correct one.

Re: Differential check
You are also not limited to an Auburn replacement. Eaton makes a very good disc clutch limited slip. Here's some info on upgrading the 10-bolt. Costs a lot for the little improvement you get, but may provide some helpful info. In these articles, they started out with an LS1 with a Torsen limited slip, but the principles are the same:

Re: Differential check
^^^ agree, BUT the Eaton is only available in 3 series.
And don't forget the purchasing a used carrier. Most used for sale Auburns have some and/or quite a bit of service life left, and some are practically brand new with very few miles put on because the entire rear was upgraded to a larger rear.
