Difference in M6 & A4 center section?

I was told there might be a difference in the carrier/3rd member/center section, (whatever you choose to call it) in an LT1 Auburn rearend depending on which trans it has.

I always thought a 10 bolt was a 10 bolt, whichever trans it had in it. Am I wrong?
Thanks.

If it came as a posi rear axle, then the only difference should be in gear ratio. Only other thing I can think of is it could be a 2 series carrier (as opposed to a 3 series carrier) if it came with 2.73 rear gears.
