Differance in LT1 and LS1 6 speed tranny?
Does anyone know what the actual differences (if any) in the T 56 6 speeds that came in the LT1's versus the LS1's??
Planning to use one in my 68 camaro behind a 400. A friend has a 6 speed from an LS1 car. I know the bellhousing is different for the two. But what else???
If I get a LT1 style bellhousing, will it bolt right up? Also, are the input shafts different?
Thanks for any help out there!

I don't think either the LS1 or LT1 T56 will bolt up directly to a Gen 1 SBC with their stock bell housings. Steve Spohn (Spohn Performance) used one of my spare LT1 T56's to develop a kit to install the LT1 T56 in the 3rd Gen F-Bodys. He should be able to give you some info on that kit. McLEod now makes a "universal" SFI-rated bell housing that will mate the LS1 T56 to virtually any engine.
The LS1 differs from the LT1 in that the LS1 has a longer input shaft. It also has the slave cylinder mounted on the front cover plate of the tranny concentric to the input shaft, operating the clutch in conventional "pusher" setup, while the LT1 mounts the slave cylinder to the bell housing, has a fork/ball on the front cover, and operates the clutch in "pull back" fashion. I believe there may be some differences on the bell housing bolt patterns as well, but not sure.
