Talking diameter of converters

So, for a street car, 95 lt1 4l60E, what diameter of converter should I be looking for? What is the purpose of having smaller ones or bigger ones? I am trying to figure out my price list right now for my A4 swap. I dont have one to look at as I have an m-6, so I need to know this stuff before I start buying my pile of parts.
Thanks!
Cody

Re: diameter of converters

How much you looking to spend? I've got a Pro-Built 4L60E with a Edge 9.5" bulletproof converter for sale and I can get rid of the trans mount and a couple other things too since I'm swapping to a TH400. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Re: diameter of converters

No it's made by Dana at Pro-Built (http://www.700r4l60e.com/). Handled 550+rwhp and 650+rwtq on my car. Has about 8k on it. Getting rid of it because I'm building a bigger motor since I just threw a rod and I'll be past the limitations of the 4L60E so I'm going TH400, and also need a transbrake. 4L60Es are interchangeable between years.

Re: diameter of converters

only to a point. I need a 95-97 f body tranny only. There are slight differences, and only these will work for me. what kind of price tag is on this unit?

Re: diameter of converters

Here's a little primer I wrote on torque converters. It does adress a bit about converter diameter. You shouldn't be concerned about diameter per se but about stall speed and efficiency. Different diameters converters will fit in your bell housing. Why are you swapping in an A4?

Edit: when I read it, I guess I didn't adress size per se. But as I said above, "size doesn't count". It's what the converdoes, not what size it is. In general, the higher the stall, the smaller the converter though.

Re: diameter of converters

becuase I want to drag alot, and autos are more consistent. Plus to rebuild my stick and buy the street twin is too much money. I can get this done for like two grand, and its alot more fun to just drive it. Plus the auto is a little gentler on my stock rear until I can afford a dana 60.
