Cutting tranny cooler lines???
Cutting tranny cooler lines???
I am removing my tranny in my driveway and I can't seem to get to the tranny cooler lines at the top of the trans to unbolt them, plus the flare nut wrench I have doesn't have the angle head needed to turn them if I could get it on there. I dropped the trans mount and lowered the trans as far as it will go while still attached to the engine. I don't want to start dropping the trans anymore, before they are loose, because I don't want to kink or damage them.
I took this pic off the internet and added to it to show what I am thinking about doing. I am thinking about cutting the lines where they are next to the bell housing and then dropping the trans. Then when I put it back up use rubber hose, like for an aftermarket trans cooler, and hose clamps to put everything back together. What are the opinions of me doing this? What other options have I might not thought of?
Thanks,
John

I Cut them this morning, and the trans is out now. I will spend less on the hose and clamps then going back to sears and getting another wrench.
Also, where are you in PA?

OK, for anyone out there looking to do this to make it easier. The compresion fittings are only $2 (ea) and you need (2) 5/16" compression couplers. For me it was worth the 4 bucks because the tools I would have needed to buy were more then that. I got mine at the local pepboys (it is < a mile from my house), but you can get them anywhere. If you don't have a crows foot 1/2" flare wrench, just cut the lines! It saved removal and reinstall time, by not needing to fight with the lines until eveything else is buttoned up!
Thanks everyone!
