Could a little undertorque of pp bolts ruin a clutch?
Could a little undertorque of pp bolts ruin a clutch?
Hey fellas!
My friend for IU is replacing his clutch on his 94 Z( either a 94 or 95 ) and just got done torqueing his PP bolts to flywheel. He said they require 15 ft lbs with an additional 30 degree turn. Now, he had an in lbs torque wrench, and went to 174 ( he was drunk, thats the best mental math he could do ) instead of 180, then turned the 30 degrees. He's going to go back and re torque it, but could that ruin a clutch? 6 in lbs. Just kinda wondering how sensitive they are for my own curiousity. Thanks!

Re: Could a little undertorque of pp bolts ruin a clutch?
I doubt he'll have any problems. When I did my trans swap I tightened everything with a ratchet, no problems yet, except I did notice the back two bolts on my torque arm somehow worked loose, except it looks like they were in the same place, and either the bolts stretched or the torque arm twisted somehow.
Anyway, the only problems I do have with my clutch are related to over-enthusiasm with the gas pedal.
