Question Converter Woes

I just got my tranny back from the shop where it recieved a full rebuild with extra clutches, a HD sun shell, and the computer is being reprogrammed (shift kit)
I need help deciding what to do for a converter, my car has 130k on it but the tranny had been rebuilt sometime down the road and already had a 2000 stall converter installed.
The mods are in my sig, So what should I do? Keep the current stall? Or buy another one (what stall speed)?

If you are not looking to take this to the drag strip I would stay with what you have. You can find a lot better things to spend your money on for the minimal difference a 2800-3200 would make on the street. These cars have plenty of torque for the street.

Re: Converter Woes

Were you happy with what you had? If you were going to change to a different stall, what would be your goal? Remember, like in everything else TINSTAAFL. If you get a higher stall for more launching torque, it may cause trouble hooking up and it will decrease fuel economy, increase noise and heat, and decrease throttle response at light throttle.

Gotta give up something to gain something.

Re: Converter Woes

Thats the thing, I dont know if I would be happy with what I have, Its my first car and I bought it with a bent rod for 1k towed to my house so I have never driven it . I want a streetable car since this would be my main mode of transportation so from what it sounds like I should keep the stall I have for now and upgrade later if I want/need to?

-Thanks for the responces

if you bought a 2800 lockup stall, it would not feel much different than a stock stall. A tad looser, but not much at all, perfectly streetable. But ya with that you'll get tranny heat so get a tranny cooler... Either way you'll most likely be happy

Re: Converter Woes

That's right. He would be happy either way with little real change in how it feels or works on the street. Wouldn't it be better to save the 300.00 to 700.00?

I'm all for higher performance but I even take my street car to the track once or twice a season. I have a 4400ish stall on my '94 that will not see the street and a used 3200 Vigi in a box waiting for the time when I rebuild the tranny in the '98.
