has anyone ever had to return a defected clutch if so was the distributor cooperative (sp?)

i installed a spec stage III and after the recc. breaking plus 200 miles on top of that it slips i called the distributor and he said pull the clutch out and call me back....im wondering if there is a lot of bs when you tell them its defected just so i know what to expect or maybe an easier way to go about it that i dont know
