clutch and flywheel questios and suggestions
sorry, no time to do a search so i am just going to ask.
well after 127k miles my clutch is really starting to show its age. im hoping to just drive it for the time being, but i can make it slip easily when applying a good bit of power
ive got some questions though. the LT1 is balanced by the flywheel right? so if i go with the SLP billet flywheel will i have a balance issue or is it just that the engine needs mass back there, not necessarily a weight at a specific point on the flywheel, like a wheel weight. i might be able to get my hands on an AL flywheel thats used but just turned or resurfaced actually. im really worried about it being too light. while i do not drag race the car, i do need the launch capabilities. is their a weight that i should maintain in order to allow me to launch? i figure aside from weight how different can can the al flywheels really be.
i was just planning on running an LT4 clutch and pressure plate. are the autozone ones any good or should i stick with my GM or delco suppliers? anyone want to convince me that an aftermarket clutch is worth the money? im basically stock power wise so i dont see a need for a very strong clutch and id prefer to not have a grabby clutch on the car.
other than a new pilot bearing is there anything else i should look into replacing or upgrading while im in there?
thanks

Re: clutch and flywheel questios and suggestions
If you are looking to be able to actually launch the car then you need more then a stock clutch/PP. As far as the AL FW is concerned, at least the fidanza's, you don’t turn them you buy a new insert, and they run about $65. Because I have a corvette and an original DM system my choices where limited even with the new SM system but you have a lot of good clutches to choose from. The best IMHO is the McLeod twin set up but it is expensive and probably over Kill for your situation. You should give Carolina Clutch a call and talk to Tom he should be able to hook you up with the rite set up for your application, My guess a stage two.

sorry. its been a while since i was here and I had forgotten about the drivetrain section. i need to launch because i autox. really i think just a slight upgrade of the pressure plate is all i need for strength which is why im thinking LT4 PP. im not launching over 1500 rpm or on slicks.
