Fireturd & MPM IV: Thanks for the opinions. I was glad to see some input from people who had tried both, that way I get a better comparision.

Pete: Wait a sec, I recall you saying something about a wanting a six-speed conversion this past summer.

I was thinking the same thing in terms of cost as well. Plus the fact that the CF is a dual friction clutch so it provides more clamping with less pedal effort. That alone will make it a nice setup for street/strip. I'm starting to lean more towards the Centerforce from what I've heard and read so far.

Well since there is a patent on the lt1 pressure plate the pedal pressure should be the same no matter what clutch it is because all the pressure plates are the same, i have at least 30 passes on my spec on bfg drag rAdials and it is holding great. On a test day last summer i hot lapped the clutch 3 times and it grabed just as hard the 3rd time as it did the first. I am very pleased with my clutch.

My spec grabs well BUT it's noisy as hell (one of the torsion springs is loose or not seated properly! ) and it is very moody. One minute it will engage smoothly, then the next it will shake my damn car apart! My clutch pedal also vibrates! Grrr!

I will NOT be going with Spec again, however if you do... do not get the KEVLAR friction disc.. I've been told that could be my problem.

All right i went threw the selection when i done my heads and cam. I dont have any dynos for that set up but my new engine puts 365 down. I run the genuine gm lt4 pressure plate, and a mccleod single disk (the shift up to 7500rpm). This setup has lasted threw 2 setups and bout 10k miles. This is a setup that .works excellent and bites very very hard. anyways there my .02 cents.

Re: Which clutch is better: Centerforce or Spec

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a question. My current RAM clutch has about 20,000 miles on it, but it's not strong enough with the N20, especially if I get some heat in it from a decent launch. Since all LT1 PP's are the same, could I oreder a SPEC or McLeod disc and just replace the disk? Of course I'd resurface the flywheel and check the flatness of the PP. I'd just hate to buy a new PP since mine is less than a year old and I love the way the pedal feels.

Yea you world probably be fine with geting a new disc and resurfacing the flywheel as long as the pp dosen't have any blueing on it as it has been overheated. Although it sounds like you have heated it all up pretty good before so maybe u should go with a whole new unit.

I had a bad expereience with Spec.. that little spring/hub problem referred to earlier, blew up on my car and sent the springs flying like bullets through my bellhousing and some sensors on the engine and the oil pan.. Cost me about 1300 to repair. I can never buy one of theres again..

the Centerforce... only had experience through 1 from my brothers Iroc thats puts down about 350rwhp.. only lasted 3k miles.. dont know why..

Right now i run the LT4 clutch and works fine for anything under 330rwhp.. but its slipping now cuz i have more. It'll hold 1 run fine but an immediate run afterward will cause it to slip
