Clutch Advice-LS1

I have a '98 Z28 with 110k miles on it. My clutch is starting to get a little soft after a hard start and I'm not sure if the clutch has ever been changed out so it's time to go. I've heard that the stock LS1 clutch doesn't even come close to most aftermarket clutches. This is my DD and I rarely take it to the track. What clutch would y'all reccomend? I need something that is reasonably priced.

You could probably pick up an LS6 ('01-'04 Z06) clutch fairly cheap, and it's going to hold better than the stock LS1 clutch .

I'm running a Centerforce dual-friction, and so far it's worked good for me. I think a lot of guys had problems with the LT1 Centerforce clutches, but the LS1 is a different design, and it's priced well.

Where is it cheapest to get the LS6 clutch from? And would i require that I change the flywheel as well?

Sorry, not sure about the "where" .

As for the flywheel, you can just have your stocker re-surfaced. A shop near me charged me something like ~$75, and it makes it look like brand new again . That's all you need.

Okay cool. I do most everything myself, but I'm planning on taking her into F-body Motorsports here in Charlotte to have them change the clutch so they should be albe to do that. Thanks for the help. Any other reccomendations out there?

I have found a good offer on a practically brand new SPEC STAGE 2 clutch disc and pressure plate. Can anyone speak to the quality/performance/driveability of this clutch?

LS7 clutch and flywheel. Stock feel but good for more power than LS6. The whole kit w/slave cyl can be had for around $500. Or you can get a take off for less

I've got one I bought from LPE with 1700 miles on it sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. Clutch w/flywheel was ~$260. The thing looks new.

They aren't a sponsor so I can't really mention them, but a birdie told me over on ls1tech.com a company is selling a LS6/7 kit for 430$ or so.

I used to have a Spec Stage 2 in my '96, I really wasn't a fan. It chattered like a mother, was either ON or OFF (IE: no slipping) and after a few drops it wouldn't work right. I've also heard quite a few horror stories about them exploding.

Is it the LS6 or LS7 kit? There is a difference. One was designed for 400 hp the other for 500 hp.

Well, the clutch got too hot on the way home from work and wouldn't disengage, so I had her towed off to F-Body Motorsports. I'm having them put in a Spec Stage 1. I have no need for a stage 2...

Well, the guys at the shop have been great! I am to get her back today. I had a thought after she was towed in. It was acctually the hydraulics that gave me problems that last day of driving. Indeed, the hydraulics were leaking. So I had master cylinder for a 2001 SS installed. Now starts the break in period on the new clutch. I understand it takes about 500 miles, and I don't want to jump the gun so I'll be patient. Any advice?
