Best deal going to replace an LS1 clutch is the Z06 package from Scoggins-Dickey (www.sdpc2000.com) for 325. Includes a new flywheel, clutch disk, and pressure plate. PP/Disk are Vette Z06 parts; hold better than stock at a great price.
If cost were no object, perhaps the best clutch on the market for an LS1 is the McLeod Street Twin. It's a two disk setup, holds like a dream, but not much more pedal effort than stock, and also not chattery like some of the cheap clutches with extreme friction material. Cost with a new adjustable master cylinder, PP, and disk is around 1000 to 1500 depending on source, and add about 300 more for a new flywheel and new slave cylinder. This setup HAS been known to eat stock rear ends if you simply shift hard into second; it is a very very grippy clutch.
Either way, if your LS1 is 97-00, you'll also want to upgrade the slave cylinder, 120 from Scoggins Dickey. )1 and up already have the upgraded slave. Want to know why you should do this, do a search, it's been discussed many times.
Any LS1 benefits from doing the drill mod... see www.installuniversity.com.
I'd stay away from the Hayes. Proabably costs more than the Z06 anyway.
The above refers to LS1 ONLY, not to LT1.

Any new slave cylinder that you order from a parts store will be the updated version.
