Clutch #2-Extreme Chatter

So I installed a new clutch b/c my first SPEC Stage1 was slipping like crazy and Chattered a lot and I had nothing but issues with it. What do I do? BUy another SPEC clutch and hope that it does not chatter like the first one and it does not slip. Well the slipping part I have not tested yet b/c I need to break in the clutch, But man the car is almost undriveable b/c it chatters so much. If u give it any gas and then release the clutch it shakes the entire car, and pretty bad. You would think I had a Stage 3+ on there but its the Stage 1. I dont know what Can Cause this. I did have the flywheel resurfaced. THe Slave and Master are new. Any Idea's please feel free. Im completely fed up with this issue. Its to the point that I dont know if Im going to stick with this car b/c of it. Owned the car for less than a year and have dropped the transmission 3 times already.

When i installed my Mcleod clutch a while back i had the same problems the car would shake bad extreme chatter. I found out that if your center shaft or whatever you call it in your tranny if its bent in anyway even slightly it will cause major chatter as well. Ofcourse not having your flywheel resurfaced or not surfaced properly will do the same, in your case youve already done that. I dont know a whole lot but i went with a 95 T56 instead and went with a Maddog Stage 3 kevlar and ceramic and have had very mild chatter since. But you will get other responses on here that will help you out and people that will know alot more what i was told i changed and it worked for me.

I have heard this on the Spec disks many times, I think they make their own disks from scratch.

I am a fan of rebuilding the GM disk myself, I had Kevlar installed on one side and composite asbestos on the other and it has ZERO chatter and bites big time. I would not ever own a Spec from what I have read on this board.

I would call Spec and complain.

I just called SPEC and they said to go through the break in period and see if it goes away. I told him that its so bad that it makes the car almost undriveable. I am so sick of this issue that I have been dealing with since I got my first SPEC clutch. Im going to give it the 500 miles and thats it. I doubt they will return my money. Its just to much messing with it. My car is completely stock and Im having this much problems. FW was resurfaces. New slave and maaster.

If it has "pucks" on one side or both, it will chatter. Also, when installing the trans input shaft into the disk...if you got tired of wresting the trans and let it hang with the input shaft in the disc and not bolted up it will bend or warp the disc...this will also cause chatter.

IMO only very high HP cars NEED a clutch like this, a factory style disc with a better pressure plate will usually do the trick.

No its a stage one so there is no pucks. The trans never rested on the disk since I had the trans supported the entire time with a jack. I was pushing in the trans while my brother controlled the jack. So That was not the case. Its horrible, I need to call SPEC and see whats up. Im going to go with a LS7 Clutch hit and LS2 Flywheel I guess.

How long have you had it? I had a stage 1 that was junk from day 1. Chattered the teeth out and then blew apart in less than 10k. When I called them, the guy said "that's average milage for an aftermarket clutch". Now I have a Mcleod single disc, which never chattered a bit form the start.

Ha ha ha ha. I have had the clutch in my car for, hmm. Its Tueaday and I installed it Saterday. This is day #4 and its Pathetic. I can Barely drive my car and im sure its not going to calm down after the 500 mile break in period. Im pretty much Stock so Im sure the LS7 clutch can handle at most 350rwhp when Im done with mods.
