Clunking Woes

Hey everyone, I did a 4.10 gear swap after my pinion bearing came loose...
They're Richmond gears which are known to be whiny... swapped the bearings along with it too... they aren't that whiny... so I assumed everything was normal... I'd notice a vibration at high speeds... thought nothing of it also, I attributed to crappy suspension...

So fast fwd to today.... Im driving home from my dorm... as im driving i hear a clunking noise.... ever so slight... im like hrmmm okay....

I get home okay... I get into my car and head out to the store... I get on it... and as soon as i get off of it... it starts making a loud clunking sound... its like CLACK CLACK CLACK... and its directly proportional to the rpm's...

I had it towed... and in reverse it doesnt seem to make the noise.... what is it?! Im thinking it might be the pinion that's loose again, because its making the same sound... help me please!

Re: Clunking Woes

Mine sounded like that when I trashed part of 2 pinion gear teeth on my old 10-bolt. All the teeth were cracked along the base of each. When the 3.5 teeth departed from my ring gear the time before, it was a lot more noticable click/clacking sound. I'd suggest popping the rear cover off and taking a look at the gears and look for any chunks of metal in the bottom of the diff. housing.
