Clunking sound while engine is running
Clunking sound while engine is running
Ok this problem is starting to drive me nutts. If I sit there and dont push my clutch in, I can hear a loud ticking, almost clunking sound. Push the clutch in nand it goes away. I never hear it when the car is moving or slowing down or whatever just at idle. Also, I can push my shifter ever so gently against the gears without pushing the clutch in and the sound goes away. I just had my tranny rebuilt so I hope they didn't jack anything up at all.
Re: Clunking sound while engine is running
if it was the throwout bearing it would make noise everytime he pressed the clutch
thats the only time the throwout bearing is used
if the input shaft bearing is worn it would make noise while it is under load which would be almost anytime it is moving, it is not moving when the car is standing still, in gear, with your foot on the clutch, but if the tranny were rebuilt this would have been replaced
then theres the pilot bearing/bushing
which will make noise if its bad, when the car is in gear and acceleratuing or decelerating

Re: Clunking sound while engine is running
It's the slack in the cluster gears and input shaft gear rattling because of your cam. If ya hold your foot on the gas slightly does the noise go away? If it does idle it up if not then it will take a tranny rebuild to cure it and those two gears have to be new(pricey).
