Cheapest 10 bolt alternative

Yes, another 9 inch or 12 bolt thread. I did a search in the drivetrain section but didn't really see any prices. Does anyone know where the cheapest 9 inch or 12 bolt rear end I can get new is? Or this there/will there be a group buy going on anytime this summer? Thanks.

Re: Cheapest 10 bolt alternative

I just blew up my 10-bolt yesterday for the third time so I'm going the same route. I'll probably deal with DTS here in MI since their kinda local. If I recall correctly, their 12-bolt rears start around 2100$ for the F-bods.

Re: Cheapest 10 bolt alternative

I'm doing my own, got a 9" out of a 77 ford truck from the junkyard,
$150

Made a ladder bar setup, $175
(custom made, by my buddy, as they don't make one short enough
to mount in the stock LCA mount.) but this takes the torque arm out.
mounted the spring perches, and the panhard rod mount.

we haven't finished, but I'm sitting under $500 so far. and just need the
time to finish.

u could do this or get a 8.5 10 bolt oout of a truck or a 2nd gen and fab up some brackets for the torque arm and ur set for a while

its pretty cheap and not to hard to do , ull prolly lose abs or traction contol if u have it

Yeah, the ABS went away, but I don't drive on the street that much.
so it was no big deal to me.

Re: Cheapest 10 bolt alternative

My ABS doesn't work now anyway and I don't have traction control, so I won't be missing much. I'm not that mechanically inclined to to the fab work you guys are talking about. So it'd probably be in the same price range for a new 12 bolt by the time i paid for labor on the other stuff.

Re: Cheapest 10 bolt alternative

I checked DTS's website but they don't have prices for the 12-bolt and 9" F-bod setups. I'm starting to lean towards the 9" so I might call them soon to get a price, but it's gonna be a while before I scare up the bucks for it so I'm not in a crap-fired hurry. I'll try to get to it this week and post a ballpark figure.

Re: Cheapest 10 bolt alternative

If you don't care about abs the cheapest setup is a 9inch. You can go order a moser housing, TQ arm and 31 spline axle setup for $900. Then either go to your local salvage yard or ebay and pick up a center section for a few $100. I've seen 3.50 posi centersections go for $150 on ebay. Those are factory ford pieces so there should be no gear whine either. So i'd say you piece one together like that you should have a nice rear for $1200.

That sounds pretty good.. I might end up going this route.
