Chattering Clutch is Waaaay Better

I'm another one of those individuals who found the Spec 2 a horribly chattery clutch. In fact, I found very unpleasant. Well the problem is pretty much resolved.

I got a LS1 style Tranny mount, and that has made a night and day difference.

My old LT1 mount was not broken it is just a very poor design by comparison to the LS1 model, Anyone considering the switch should run not walk to the nearest dealer and get it done.

Can you just put in a LS1 mount or is there more to it than that?

I had to put in a couple of thin washers to get the new mount to stand clear of the the bracket that holds the Cat. Other than that, it was a straight bolt up.

I have a bad chater problem, particularly in reverse so I am going to take a close look at my mount. I have a Corvette so the F-body mount is out of the question but mabey I will find somthing with a closer inspection. Just out of curosity did you notice it worse in reverse?

what are the differences in the mounts? You think the stage II chatters...you should try my stage III on for size lol.

I wasnt aware the mounts were different however.

I have a 1LE mount which is the same as the LS1. It is essentially the stock mount except it has interlocking steel plates that won't allow the mount to separate. He's right it helps clutch chatter alot.

My Z28 chattered since the day I bought it, I have driven other Fbodies before and they never did that. So maybe I have a spec clutch
Ill give that LS1 mount a try, anybody know what the GM part # is?

I dunno how you guys have so many problems with chattering SPEC 2 and 3 clutches. I've done about 5 of them already and none of them have chattered. Despite what the book says about installing a clutch, you have to lightly resurface the flywheel. And if everything is install properly it should work just fine. The only problem I ever had was when I pulled out the actuator for the slave cyl. When I put it back in, the thing must have blown out because the pedal was realllllllllly hard and would only disengage at the bottom. Otherwise smooth sailing with the SPEC clutches.

It thumped on the tunnel like he11 in reverse. In first, I could get a nice smooth launch but I needed to rev to about 2-3K and slide the clutch to get a smooth forward launch. This wasn't worth a sh3t in stop and go traffic, and it was no better when trying to manouver in tight spots. The LS1 mount appears to be a circular band of steel encased in a heaping helping of rubber along with the aforementioned interlocking plates that limit upward movement. The LT1 mount I had was two separate steel plates generously layered with rubber and joined together with rubber, and this is the weak point o the mount.

Another point to add relative to the chattery clutch issue. I just got done installing Poly motor mounts, and I can say that there is almost zero clutch chatter now.
