changing shift points?

i've got a 93 Z28 with the 4l60/700R4 trans(non-electriconic) and am currently in the proccess of puting in a shift kit. What do I need to do to change my shift points from the current 5000-5100 to 6200 RPM's?? I am assuming this can't be done through the ECU on my trans like with a 4l60E, am I correct?

Wish I could help you, but you are correct that you don't do it through the ECU.

I don't know how to adjust the upshift points, but the firmness is adjusted with shims and stuff in the shift kit I think.

Re: changing shift points?

You need a governor kit, weights and springs. B & M has one but there isn't a specific adjustment. You have to experiment with different weights and springs until you get the right combo for your car.

Re: changing shift points?

damn that sounds like its a B1TCH to do, wish there was just a method of calculating the weights and springs to get a shift point... 4l60E sounds like it would be really nice right about now..

Re: changing shift points?

i'm in the process of reading about the governor assembly.. where exactly in this govenor assembly located? does it require droping the trans. pan everytime you want to switch the spring and weight?

Re: changing shift points?

It's on the left side of the trans toward the rear underneath a press fit tin cover. On an F-body you probably have to remove the crossmember and lower the trans to remove the governor. It's not hard, just a pain to have to do it more than once to dial in your shift points.

Re: changing shift points?

I was under the impression that it was after the valve body, guess thats not too bad of a place for it, atleast I don't have to drop the trans pan multiple times... Thanks for the feedback, helps out a lot.
