car won't shift into reverse M6
car won't shift into reverse M6
I have an M6 and all was working fine today until i left the place I was getting the car dyno tuned at, I reversed to get out of the place with no problems so I know reverse was working fine. I punched it in 2nd gear and the car went squirrelly all over the road - after upshifting into 3rd and 4th normally I went for 5th gear and it didn't want to go in, I got it in on the second try but it did grind a bit and then it didn't want to take 6th gear but after trying a couple of times in went in and now all the forward gears work fine but the shifter won't move over past 5th/6th so I can shift it into reverse. If I force it by using both hands I can get it over far enough to shift it into reverse but it is very hard. I know the clutch is okay as it is relatively new and although it might be synchros I have never had a problem before with shifting and I don't ever shift hard into 5th or 6th gear. Is it possible for the reverse lock out solenoid to cause this condition? If not what else should I look for?
Re: car won't shift into reverse M6
Sounds like you may have blown the fuse for the reverse lockout solenoid, or the solenoid failed. When that happens, you have to strongarm the lever to override the solenoid and get it into the reverse gate.
Re: car won't shift into reverse M6
Where is the fuse located for the solenoid? I checked all the fuses under the hood and none of them were blown. There is one that says actuator fuse so I'm not sure if that is it. If the solenoid connection was not totalled secured or if it came loose or if the wiring to it got burnt or something would it lock reverse out totally or just not work and allow you to possibly shift into reverse while going for 5th?
I have done a few searches and most of them say that if it is a case of the shifter won't go over at all then it is probably that solenoid of wiring to it. I am wondering if the wiring for this solenoid goes by the exhaust or anything. The motor was just out of the car for a rebuild in the last couple of weeks and I am now wondering if it got routed incorrect and has rubbed or touched exhaust. As I said in my first post it was only after the car was under full throttle and it was all over the road so I wonder if something got jarred. Thanks for the help.
