Car only goes in reverse

Here goes again. Just tried to leave my house. The car will only go in reverse. Its an automatic. The stick feels really loose, like slippery or something. Am i screwed ?

could be a hard part like the planetary gear....I think thats what broke on my tranny...and it would only move in reverse

I think before I went replacing the trans, I would take a few minutes and look at the shifter cable , shifter and linkage at the trans,
