Cant get Tranny off

Hey guys I am having a problem getting my tranny out, the bolts on the passenger side won't budge. I have the driver side out but the passenger side ones are super torqued on, I am useing a shop with a full lift and impact tools with 3ft extensions and universial joints. Oh and one other thing I am doing a t-56 swap and on Alex's page it says to remove crossmember and let tranny hang so you can access top bolts, well when I remove the crossmember the tranny only drops about half an inch
Is there anything you guys can think of to help me out I have been workig on these bolts for 4 hours before I called it a day I soaked them in wd-40 before I left but i really don't think this will help but I am desperate at this point.
Thanks,
Mike

You can gain a little more clearance by pushing up on the front of the engine, using a wood block to protect whatever you decide to push (gentley) on. That will drop the tailshaft of the tranny a bit more.

Make sure you are using 6-point sockets, to minimize the chances of rounding off the bolts.

And you might want to pull the oil pressure sending unit as well, I broke mine when I did my tranny R&R. It may or may not be hitting the firewall but something to check out.
Like Injuneer said use a six point and make sure it is seated on the bolt fully and then get out the huge breaker bar and summon your Hulk strength. I just helped a friend swap his auto tranny and I am 240 lbs and it took everything I had to break those bellhousing bolts loose.

So what happens to the transmission? Do you let it hit the ground?

No. You put a jack under it and lower it down now you can slide the tranny off the jack and out from under the car. I use a board about 12 x 12 on the jack so the tranny pan does not get damaged.

Thanks guys, Lifting the engine work great, I could not get the six point on because the tunnel was in the way I used a second tranny jack and a piece of wood to tilt the engine, it was just enough to get the six point on and yes I had to summon my HULK strenght which is only 175lbs Thanks again guys for the help.

Oh yeah and now that I have it off I am goint to beat that piece of the tunnel in a bit so I dont have this problem in the future!!!
