can't get into reverse
can't get into reverse
can't get over to reverse in neutral..meaning neutral between 5th and 6th to neutral underneath reverse, i gotta push it real hard to get it over there, but it goes up into reverse perfectly fine, assuming something was stuck under there i checked underneath the plastic around the shifter n didnt find anything. anyone know if there is a way to fix it, like replace the spring or something, or do i juz need to get a new shifter? argh. i have the stock shifter, and its a 94 z28

Re: can't get into reverse
There's a "reverse lockout" solenoid. If it fails, it takes a huge amount of grunt to get the shifter over into the reverse gate. If there is a circuit failure, it will set DTC 83. You would have to scan the PCM to find if that code is set, because it does not turn on the SES light.
Also check fuse #6 in the underhood panel. That's what powers the reverse lockout solenoid. It would be odd though, because that fuse also powers the EVAP purge solenoid, the EGR vacuum solenoid, and the O2 sensor heaters, and failure of the fuse should light up the SES light.
Here's the location of the solenoid:

Depends which Camaro in your signature you are asking about. On the 94 the fuse supplies the O2 sensor heaters, the skip shift solenoid, the reverse lockout solenoid, EGR vacuum solenoid and EVAP purge solenoid. I have no idea what the 99 wiring looks like. You Owner's Manual has a list of what is on each fuse.
