can't get it into gear?!

i just had my motor put back into my car. and my mechanic said he put everything back together the way it was but its really hard to get it into 1st gear from a dead start.and i can't down shift unless i'm goin a certain speed like(can't get into 4th unless i'm going like 35mph) so idk what the deal is. just wondering if anyone else had this problem or knows how to fix it. thanks!

Re: can't get it into gear?!

well, in the owners manual, it says if its sometimes hard to get into first, throw it in neutral, let out the clutch, back on the clutch, then shift into 1st
mine sometimes does that, but everytime i do the method above, it works
course, i'm not sure why you wouldnt be able to shift into 4th til 35mph
heck, i get mad sometimes with the damn skipshift trying to make me go into 4th
good luck with your problem, hopefully that fixes your first gear woes

Do what he said above, and let the clutch out and try again.... when you hold the clutch in, the gears inside will stop turning, and it may not go in gear right, so let the clutch out and it'll start turning again.

Sounds like the pilot bearing is causing problems. Maybe the bellhousing is not flush to the block.

Re: can't get it into gear?!

Hey, similar thing is happening to me and i just got my motor back in as well. It drives well for a while then after about 15 - 20 mins of driving shifting becomes difficult to go through the gears, then it becomes impposible to go from neutral to first. So i then have to shut off the car, wait a min and start it back up and its fine again. Anyone know what to do?

Re: can't get it into gear?!

maybe this a stupid proposition, but do you have enough fluid in your tranny?
you say it stops doing it after about 15-20 minutes (after it warms up) and maybe it just needs fluid
i don't know, just something i came up with and i doubt that it's but

Or do you guys think that my master cylinder just needs to be adjusted a little bit to get things back in line or is this not it?

Re: can't get it into gear?!

Being that it didn't do it just before you pulled the motor, it sounds like an alignment issue with the bellhousing. Possibly a problem with the t/o bearing.
