Can the V6 rear axle assembly be upgraded

Can the V6 rear axle assembly be upgraded to V8 specifications?
I am under the impression that it is possible to install a posi along with components to match the strength and capabilities of the stock V8 assy. Am I correct in assuming this is not done because the cost exceeds that of a used V8 axle assembly?

Thanks

You could buy a used posi carrier from a V8 and install it - that would be a lot cheaper than a new posi. But there's also the issue of the drum brakes. Swapping in a V8 rear axle assembly solves all the issues - posi and brakes. Both posi and disc brakes were optional on the V6 cars.
