Question broke the carrier bearing race in the 8.5" 10 bolt!!

Has this ever happened to anybody? Although the one picture has the bearing race laying on the passenger side carrier bearing.. the race came off of the driver side bearing (the side with the ring gear). The bearing was heavily pitted due to rolling over this break a half millions times.. but otherwise was smooth rolling... I'm wondering what may have cause the race to break like this? There are no signs of overheating (blued or scorched metal). The car has never had slicks on it.. but routinely sees the track and 55oo powershifts are not uncommon... Also, as a side note I broke seven (7) Super T-10s with this car.. finally I went with higher nickle content gears, and a cast Iron case and that held up.. not this.. AGRHHH..

The car has ported Ram Air III Heads, RPM Edelbrok (sp) intake, Comp Cam 268H Cam, Headman Equal length long tube headers, straight pipes, worked over factory Q-Jet, MSD 6A ignition and coil, 3.23 factory gears in the 10 bolt 8.5" rear and a re-geared transmission..

Thanks for your help!

** edit **
Warning the pictures are big.. sorry guys

My guess would be too much backlash (play) in your carrier bearings, allowing it to slam against the outer race when launching/shifting...

Thats a good reply, the ring gear will get pushed against that side first as the load transfers from the pinion. Also, there is a required amount of preload shimed into the carrier in addition to the backlash amount of shim.

What times are you running with that set up?
