Breaking a 10 bolt? What happens

Alright i would like this thread to be dedicated to breaking a GM 10 bolt in an F-body. We have all heard of people breaking them and how weak they are, but i would like to know specific things that actually break when they go out?? What actually breaks? What have you guys seen break? axles? differentails? pinions? rings?

Let's hear the stories

Mine took 4 teeth of the ring gear...After 3 years of M/T ET Streets, and around 200 quarter mile passes. Those were my GM Motive 4.10's....

From what I've seen the ring gear is usually what blows. I've grenaded 1 set myself. Gotta love those 10-bolts.

No personal experience, although I've heard that if the teeth don't snap off the ring gear, the next thing to go are the splines off the axles (basically, the end of the axles will just shear off! ).

How do the teeth of the ring gear break off? Is it because the ring gear "walks" in the housing? Seems like putting in stronger gears, solid spacer, moser axles and a good eaton posi would make a 10 bolt pretty strong........but then again.........that would be about the price of a 12bolt........lol

no one has an extra 2.73 differential sitting around anywhere do they? My posi is gone and bums me out no more racing this season.....i'm not putting money into the 10 bolt and don't have or will have enough money before winter hits again.

hey i can make smoke with my 2.73's finally though----one wheel wonder
