break-in question

i have a new drivetrain in my car, from the flywheel to the axles and in the next couple days it will finally get tuned and on the road. However, in about a week i have to transport it 750 miles (1200 kms) away and im wondering if its a really stupid idea to try and drive it that distance.

ill be driving the car quite a lot in the next week around the city to break it in, but how much break-in does a new rear, trans, clutch, etc need before considering taking it on any extended trips?

i could put it on a truck, which would cost me quite a bit and to be honest i would love to take my car on a road trip...but am i asking for trouble by doing that so soon after getting it on the road?

Yes, with new drivetrain parts you should break it in very slowly. No trips over 5 miles and limit your top speed to just 35 mph for at least 6-months. This way you will not have any future problems. Also your idea of taking a long trip with your car on a truck is very sound. Lets not take any chances.

6 months? rear gears take about 5-6 heat cycles of hot and cold, motor needs initial break in and a few heat cycles with varying rpms over idle only. clutch is about 300 miles of easy driving and a few heat cycles. brakes need about3-4 heat cycles on easy stopping to seat the pads and break in rotors. other then that as long as everything is initially run and seated it will be fine. id say youd be fine to do it in a week if you take it out several times. just when you do your trip try and make several stops along the way and vary your speed so the car isnt sitting at one rpm for too long.

I agree, 6 months is rediculous. Drive it like you stole it!

The only thing you would really have to worry about is the tranny. I know when I got mine rebuilt I was told to do as much stop and go for the first 500 miles as possible, and no prolonged driving in one gear. The clutch should be fine, just take it easy on it and don't beat on it at all.

This is a reply to all the Aces who answered the Dumb rear break-in question. Did any of you Aces think the reply was sort of funny & off the wall and a Joke??? I guess not.

haha thx for all the replies. ya when it comes to break-in, you get so many different opinions, most of which are wrong.

its good to get a consensus on something. ill definitely be able to put at least 500 miles on it before taking it on this trip, so it sounds like everything should be ok. now to invest in a good radar detector....
