"take that spacer out. its not for our application that should make it better, there will be a little bit more vibration than before but should smooth out at high r's"

I have a ES poly mount on mine and I used the metal (preload?) plate. I have some vibration but not too much. Should I take out that plate? Will it hurt anything to leave it in? Thanks in advance......Later

I would like to know this as well...Does taking the plate out really help with vibrations and does taking the plate out cause any ill effects?

Thx,
Claude

like stated, you are going to get more vibes with the poly then the stock rubber. I had a SOLID tranny mount in mine, that lasted 2 days before I switched to a poly. Poly has some vibes but is better then solid,

Not sure if its been said, but.... ES is working on a new mount (they have been for a long time) the mount that we have is for 3rd gens. Call ES, the more people that call the better. Maybe we can light a fire under there asses and get a replacement mount. Talk to Greg in the Tech department...that is if you can get ahold of him.

After reading this thread, I jacked up the car and took out the spacer. Change is minimal, if any. Don't waste your time with it.

I kept my ES Poly mount on for 2 days, then took the rubber one back to AutoZone and got my free replacement(lifetime warranty). I'll probably have to keep replacing them 3, or 4 times a year(last one lasted 1500miles/4months), but its worth it to not have my car feeling like its going to fall apart. If I raced at the track alot I would use the poly, but I dont so, its not for me.

ES Tranny Mount

Well I installed the ES mount today ( replacing broken stock mount ) in my '95 Z28. Yes, there is definitely an increase in vibration. Not sure yet whether I like it or not. It beats the heck out of hearing the Tranny thump when I take off, but I am not sure that it won't drive me nuts over time.

Guess I'll let you guys know. My initial impression is somewhat mixed.

Re: bad viberation after replacing tranny mount!

Well, I gave it time to see if it would settle in - and I have to tell you I just can't take the vibration. I am having to have the engine rebuilt, so I am getting the drive shaft balanced and am changing back to stock mount.

The vibration is so severe, it changes the cars handling as well as my pleasure. It is not an option I can recommend, especially since changing the mount out is so simple!

Re: bad viberation after replacing tranny mount!

Having the same problem here too with the ES mount. I had driveshaft vibrations at 80+ MPH since I bought the car, and the mount only magnified the vibe. I'm in the process of getting an aluminum DS, but it's a PITA. I ordered one through the Bill Smith Auto Parts(a huge chain of junkyards) and the bastards got me a steel DS, so now they're looking for an aluminum one. Did all LS1 cars come with an aluminum shaft, or were some of them steel. I'm going to try ebay soon if I can't find one locally. Anyways, if you're feeling vibrations then something is out of balance and it needs to be fixed. AT any speed below 80 MPH I don't feel any more drivetrain harshness with the new VS old mount.

Re: bad viberation after replacing tranny mount!

i expierenced all of the same probs that everyone else did with the ES mount , on my car the ES mount pushed the trans. up about .5" - .75" and was horrible , even taking off that pre-load spacer wouldnt make enough of a difference to help.

I took it off and switched to a stock mount and it is much better , I am getting a vibration at 80 now and i have never had that problem , i am going to try to shift the trans as far to the left or right as i can and see if that makes a difference.
I am sure that an alum DS would help but i know that the problem was not there before so I can assume that the DS probably isnt the cause of the problem.

Re: bad viberation after replacing tranny mount!

I would read about all these complaints about a poly trans mount and would think wat a bunch of pansies.lol. WELL i cant STAND mine. Im like holy crap if i keep this thing in my car is gonna fall apart. Im going to the dealership today and get me a new stock mount. Do i have to ask for the ls1, or is it the only one they make?

seems like making 1/2" spacers for the crossmember would cure this problem....

Re: bad viberation after replacing tranny mount!

Get an LS1 tranny mount! Its rubber, but it has a torque limiter on it so it won't tear! I don't understand why more people don't use the LS1 mount? I've had mine for several years now, and its still like new.
