Axle Condition Question...... :D
I pulled my axles this morning, and I admit I am a total Rear-End newbie ditz. All I know is what little bit of stuff I've read or heard.
Anywhoo, when I pulled my axles, I notice that where the bearing rides the shaft that it's got some groovin goin on! The grooves aren't that deep (to me?), but they are there.
I wanna know
if this is normal and how much grooving is acceptable? I don't have a microm-a-thingie so no help there. My car is a 96 and it was owned previously by my aunt who only drove it on the highway, prude.
So, I'm thinking normal. I read in a magazine article that sometimes you can buy a sleeve that fixes this, so a new axle isn't needed? Oops, guess that is two questions! sowwy!

Unfortunately it's normal for these cars. I used to go through a couple axles a season when I was road racing my car. You should take care of it before it gets too far along. The extended bearings work OK, but a new axle is a better bet.
