Drive is a 1 to 1 ratio with your engine. That means that the the transmission and wheels will be spinning at the same speed as your motor. Overdrive will spin the wheels faster than your motor making it easier on your motor at high speeds like when cruising on the highway. This is my understanding at least somone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Overdrive gives you better gas mileage and saves the engine from wear by keeping the RPMs lower. (being a higher gear)
Drive is just 3rd gear and the RPMs will be higher than driving with overdrive.

racing in drive would be better off than in OD...??

OD is better for street use

Not if you want to top the car out. Pretty much all of my races are at a roll on the expressway. I have to stay in OD to get 120+.

I asked this question earlier and got little response, so I figured that I'd ask again, sice it goes with the thread.

When I leave my car in drive (not overdrive), I get a bad vibration through the drivetrain when I get off of the gas (under deceleration). Could this be a symptom of an unbalanced driveshaft or is it something in the tranmission internals?

Any ideas or experience would be appreciated.

As far as i know thats normal. If your talking about the vibration you get from the rpms dropping when your in D that is. It will do it to in OD just not as much and you have to be going like 90+ before you will start to feel it when it drops RPMs.
