Auto guys...help

Think I have a tranny problem here....

usually when you put the shifter in 2nd when going 50 the RPMS immediately fly up...however, this isnt happening - not anymore..with ANY gear

its like im in neutral If my foot isnt on the gas ...then if I touch my foot to the gas it like jumps the gear its suppose to be in...this cant be good...JUST started doing it today

Re: Auto guys...help

Could be a pressure problem within the trans body... could also be a pump problem.. and if nothing has changed at all from one day it was working to the next it is not, then it would not be the TV cable.. (most common problem but yours is not that if nothing changed). Might want to drop the pan and look at the fluid... see if any of it smells burnt or you have any particles in it that should not be there... Could also be the Govenor... it deals with shifts.. trans fluid check and that would probably be a good start

Either your over-run clutches are wasted, or the lugs have broke off your over-run hub of the input sprag.

My car has been doing this (a little noticable) for a few months.
Lately it has gotten worse and sounds like mine is doing the same thing.

I have been told it could be either:

1. Torque converter
2. input sprag gear ( I think you have to remove the pump to check it)
or
3. just pull tranny and see what you see (trans professional).

Also, on my car I can hold it in first while reaching about 4K rpms and take foot off the gas for it to decelerate (staying in first) and it feels like a 6 speed with the clutch half way ingauged.

Is there is some type of something in the TQ to reverse flow ?

if not, then I would have to think it may just be the sprag gear behind the pump.

Fix yours and tell me what it is ... try the first gear thing on your car as well to see if yours is doing like mine.

I went past your post after reading the first post, but do you happen to know how much $ this would cost .

I know 2 tranny people and I would like to know up front roughly how much $ before asking either one to take a look at it.

One is a friend (sort of) and the other is just in the tranmission business. I would almost rather the business guy just do it in case there is more to it (later down the road) and not get in a mess with my friend.

Thanks, assumming you or someone else may know approximate cost.

Re: Auto guys...help

i had this same problem in my 82 camaro with a TH350, and had to have the tranny rebuilt. when a tranny goes out, the first to die is second gear, then everything else goes at the same time. i recomend you take it to a tranny rebuild pro and have it looked at.
