Sounds like you will need to replace the tranny tailshaft seal, its a pretty common place to leak, but not difficult to repair.

I'm guessing this would be the perfect time to swap drive shafts as well?

Yep, your gonna have to pop it off anyhow. The aluminum LS1 driveshaft is a popular upgrade but the other question comes up, will it be enough for your current or future power goals?

Probably, any case may as well fix this leak before it gets bad and change the ATF fluid and filter.
