Anyone with Spohn TA and Aluminum Driveshaft

Just got a custom Aluminum Driveshaft from PST yesterday, beautiful piece by the way. Here is my problem. The driveshaft is of course larger in diameter, and is rubbing on the bolt that mounts the front of the TA to the tunnel brace. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions? Only thing I can think is to grind the head of the bolt or try and find a bolt with a smaller head.

Thanks.

Do you have any pics?

I am currently running the Spohn TA and 3.5 driveshaft and have never encountered this problem.

Yes I do at home. I'll try and post them tonight at home. I'm not sure about the diameter of my driveshaft, but I'm beginning to think that it may be 4". I'll measure it tonight. BTW Spohn recommended cutting the bolt head off and welding it thereby creating a stud that is flush with the bracket. He also said I could grind the bolt head, but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with the amount of clearance that would give me.

Thanks for the reply.

I had the same combo at one time with no issues.

I got it adjusted last night, pinion angle at about -1 and everything tightened up. It clears the driveshaft, but only by about 1/4". I'm not sure that's enough clearance so I'm going to either grind part of the bolt head or go get it welded.

What did you end up doing?

I have the same issue with my Mark Williams 3.5" driveshaft.

I helped the problem buy stuffing the TH400 up in the tunnel by making some plates that put the TH400 1.25" above the stock location with a T56 cross member.

When the rearend is under it's own weight, it is looks fine and centered pretty well in the DS loop, but I cannot jack up my car, put jack stands right in front of the LCA's and let the rearend down. The DS binds up on the plate holding the bolt for the TA and the arm for the ds loop.

Anyways...did you get it worked out?

Re: Anyone with Spohn TA and Aluminum Driveshaft

Wow talk about an old thread. I ended grinding the bolt head at angle and it gives me adequate clearance. I've had it this way for quite a while, and although there isn't a large amount of clearance, I see no evidence on the driveshaft of scraping the bolt.

Mark.
