Anyone breaking th400 cases

I got about 7 passes out of mine before i busted the gear lugs. Im not sure how common this problem is being that my car weights in at 3700 with me in it@1200rwhp

I found this on the net. http://www.atfspeed.com/products.html I might grab it if i break another case. Just wondering if any others have this problem.

Baxter pushed 1,350HP through an Art Carr TH400, with complete reliability.

I have only seen this happen as a result of excessive line presure well beyond whats needed and or complete elimination of the accumulator for second gear. I suppose you could get a weak case that could have been weakened by time or the previously mentioned conditions but I have not run into that myself ussally its and instant failure resulting from one of those conditions.

Had to look that up mostly mess with OD trans now but the chart in alldata says 150 psi in drive should be max you can test by unhooking modulator and place the guage in the presure port.

Most likely the pressure is too high.

Anything over 195psi. (Trans Brake) can cause this. I like 175-185 psi. max. Removing the waved steel, eliminating the accumulation, using the stock snap ring in the case against the lugs can contribute to this. Jerry the owner of jTCS in Chino, California (909 6278595) machines the case (you have to send him your case) to accept a spiral ring. This allows cases that have the lugs broken out to be used again. This is good, since the TH400 cases are getting harder to find.
