Am I Going Crazy?? Someone Help Me Out Here.
Ok...im not gonna say any names yet..but i need some help here..maybe im crazy. Less than 3,000 miles ago..i blew my 4.11 gears in a STOCK rear end. The gears had about 10,000 miles on them and the posi had about 80,000(thats how i bought the car) well i broke 4 teeth on the ring gear. Ok so..i bring it to a "well known" shop and spend 1,300$ on parts and labor to get the rear end very strong. I even went with the +70$ option to get the auburn PRO carrier even though i was told i would never need it unless i was pushing big power(stock 93 6 spd with exhaust MSD and INTAKE..even stock clutch with 50k miles on it) well i spent the money had everything fixed. I brought it back a week later bcuz it was making really loud noises. It was taken apart put back together and I was told it was fine. So then i took it..drove down to VA (450miles) drove around VA for 2 weeks then drove back up to CT. That weekend i did my FIRST and only burn out...IN BLEACH!..and theres proof on video bcuz kids had to hold my car cuz it was sliding so much. I did it for about 15 seconds. No problems. I drove it back down to VA then a week later back up to CT. While at home..i was showing off to some girl..i started going around a corner..gunned it..went sideways. It started clicking. That night I jacked the car up and went to take off the rear cover. 4 of the 10 allen bolts around the cover were takin out by hand(i didnt even need to loosin them with a tool.) when removing the cover i notices one of the "preload" bolts wasnt even touching the C-clip but it was tightened down. The other side was touching. I rotated the back tired until i noticed 2 chipped(not broken completely off) gear teeth and the ABS gear teeth cracked all the way around and missing a couple tiny teeth here and there)That would explain the abs light going on and off since the day i got the car back from the shop-so i was told. I brought it to the place and at first I was told it would be fixed for free but id have to pay for a new gear set.(3,000 miles after i fixed it..is kinda weird but..ok) and i agreed..come to find out from a FRIEND of mine..who told me the shop WILL NOT fix my rear end bcuz of the burn out i did the week before. " he shouldnt of beat on it" and also "the rear wasnt made to be beatin on".Those were 2 things that she told me was said. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM...can someone please help me here...is it true that an aurburn pro and BRAND NEW gears are supposed to break with less than 3,000 miles if LIGHTLY beatin on by a STOCK car with almost bald back tires. Some please help me out here.
im not to sure here but i think im getting f*cked here. There isnt much I can do since im in VA and since they have the vid of be doing the burnout but does this sound right????????????

It doesnt sound good. Looks like you're about to have a go around with that shop. My opinion is that you have not "beaten on it", merely "used it to it's fullest extent" and further more that Auburn makes good quality stuff - whose gears did you get though? The facts that it made "really loud noises" after it was rebuilt, that the diff cover bolts were hand tight, the "preload" bolt not being tightened all the way down (to be honest I'm not sure what bolt you're refering to, but it doesnt sound right), all point to sloppy workmanship.
Check with the shop's local Better Business Bureau or the State Consumer Affairs Division and see what kind of reports they have on that shop. If there's a fair number of negative reports, the shop may be inclined to work with you to avoid yet another complaint. If they've got a good record, I would have thought they would step up to protect their good name already, but since they haven't, you should try to tactfully negotiate with them (deal with the owner or shop manager, not the shop guys) to a mutual compromise. The video sounds like it's not that incriminating since it must be obvious your not doing a dry concrete burn out - the difference in stress on the rear should be in your favor.
good luck!

its a MAC rear girdle cover...like the TA cover with the two preload bolts that go across the center of the cover..and you torque them to 5lbs as a lil support to the clips...one of them was torqued down to the right side..the left wasnt even close to touching..oh and the gears are richmond 4.11..and ive only delt with the owner...hes the one that works on the rear ends. Its not the point that there was bleach on the ground..(which is extremely clear in the video..ive done a million burnouts with my last 6spd and ive never had my back end kick out about 5 feet to the left like that) also..as soon as i got the car back....it started whining between 40-60mph..but then it was making almost a howling noise. Not to mentions when i asked him why the ABS light kept coming on and going off..he said it had something to do with the gear that goes around the posi unit. When i looked in there..it was all cracked and missing teeth. He said it was prolly a faulty unit..and got messed up by the chipped ring gear teeth however...the light had been going on and off since I got the carrier in the car.

Sounds like someone is reading the board's.. Could be a possibility that he's a sponsor on another board you post on?!?! EFA *cough*

bottom line is (IMO), you paid good money for what was represented to be a good quality rebuild, yet it wouldn't even take the "normal" wear & tear we all put on our rear ends - I know I do & my rear is bone stock. You deserve some recourse. Let us know how it turns out.

WHY! are you the only 2 people who understand what im talking about..everyone else is saying..bottom line..10 bolts are weak..im fully aware of that...but a built 10 bolt..is supposed to be a bit strong..noone sees where im goin with this..but thank you guys..ill find out tomorrow.
